Recruitment FAQs

How do I apply for the team?

Please fill out the Google Form to apply. If your application is successful, you will be shortlisted for a Zoom interview. After all the interviews have been conducted, we will let you know of your outcome.

When will the recruitment applications close?

Applications will close on Friday 29th March 2024 at 11:59 PM. Please submit your application before this date to minimise last-minute stress and ensure your application has been completed properly.

What roles/sections are available to join?

Our team has undergone a restructure, so there are many roles available! You can choose to be a forging, foundry or business member by choosing which section you would like to be in (R&D, external products, equipment development or business).

You can also join a committee (onboarding and training, sustainability or safety) alongside your main section.

Please refer to the relevant pages on our website to learn a bit more about the sections that interest you before you apply.

How many hours am I expected to commit to Monash Forge?

You are expected to dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per week. This can include attending meetings, attending workshop sessions, working on projects for the team, etc.

How many workshop sessions am I expected to attend per semester?

Forging members are expected to attend a minimum of 10 workshop sessions per semester. Foundry members are a minimum of 8. Business-only members are a minimum of 5.

The reason for these numbers are due to the difference in length for foundry and forging members (foundry workshops are a lot longer and require more set-up time). Business-only members are expected to learn some practical workshop skills to improve their knowledge about what the team does, but they also have to accomplish their own business projects.

Do I require prior technical skills and materials engineering theory or be an engineering student to be a part of the team?

You don’t need any prior technical skills, materials engineering theory or be an engineering student to be a part of the team. Our team members consist of students from a range of different engineering specialisations and a few members don’t do engineering at all! As long as you are passionate about what our team does and you’re enthusiastic to learn new skills - this is what we are looking for.

Monash Forge is a student team, not a club. It gives you professional development hours for being a member but to do so you have to do work that is like what happens in normal jobs. A lot of engineering work involves the admin work so as both valuable experience and to make it fair for everyone, there are no pure workshop roles. If you do have a preference, the product team will do more practical work than the other teams so consider placing them as your preference.

Can I be a pure workshop member?
i.e. can just purely forge and not do admin work?
